Taiji & QiGong Master Shen Jin


Shen Jin was nine when she began to study taijiquan and Qi Gong with her father Dr. Shen Hongxun, the founder of Taijiwuxigong, Buqi and Tianshan style Taijiquan. She graduated in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Qian Jin College of Continuing Education, and by the age of 21 began teaching and became the youngest female Master in the history of Qigong. She has been teaching Taijiwuxigong, the 12 E Mei Daoyin and Taijiquan TianShan style (medium and small stance) for over thirty years in Europe and is the principal teacher and director of the Buqi Institute.  

In 1957 one of China’s leading Qi Gong Masters, a TCM Doctor called Zhou Qianchuan, published the only known book on E Mei. The classical Chinese poetic text was very hard to understand. He taught E Mei to a small group of students in Beijing and Shanghai from 1955-1957, before his death from political persecution. After the cultural revolution Shen Jin studied E Mei with his assistant,  Master Sun Jingtao. She also studied with Pai Wen, a female student of Zhou Qianchua, and she is one of the few E Mei teachers in the world.

Master Shen Jin

Master Shen Jin was born in Shanghai, China in 1957. She holds a diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine and began to study Tai Chi and Qigong with her father at the age of only nine. She is the director of the Buqi Institute and worked for more 25 years in its development supporting her late father Dr. Shen Hongxun.

Dr. Shen Hongxun was the founder and Grand Master of the Buqi and Taiji 37 systems. Master Shen Jin is the only teacher to have worked closely and for so many years alongside the Grand Master himself. She has over 40 years experience in both Tai Chi and Qigong. An internationally renowned teacher, Master Shen Jin currently teaches regularly in the United Kingdom, Belgium, The Netherlands, France, and Norway.

Learning the Taiji 37 form gives the practitioner an extremely clear and thorough exercise routine that can become a very enjoyable daily habit and one from which the benefit will only increase as the practitioner’s knowledge and skill develops.

The health benefits of Tai Chi have been widely documented and regular exercise can help to both treat existing conditions and then maintain a good level of health. The dantian led movements of Taiji 37 when combined with the Taiji forces used can offer an extremely potent health boost.

The 12 Daoyin of the E-Mei Mountain - History

The E-Mei Mountain is in Sichuan province, in Central China. Marked by high mountains and so not easily accessible, this made the area a favourite hiding spot for revolutionaries and rebels of past dynasties. Generals and would-be future Emperors, often referred to as Tigers and Dragons, retreated to the mountains, preparing their campaigns against the regimes they planned to overthrow. 

The 12 Daoyin of the E-Mei are a traditional Buddhist exercise system. About 1000 years ago a monk named Rei Yun devised this highly effective exercise system, both to train those who fought against the ruling Emperor's army and for bone setters, who used the powerful Daoyin to improve their skills in treating the injuries suffered in combat.  

The exercises are an excellent way to develop physical strength and stamina and thus are very well suited to martial artists. However, the tonifying effect of the exercises means that they can be used to improve health and even to treat some diseases. The powerful force developed during the practice of the E-Mei Daoyin is also very useful for health and body-work, such as massage, etc.

For optimum results, one needs to pay attention to develop the exercises one by one, and each individual exercise stage by stage. Then it is possible to open the body's energy channels and meridians, enabling the practitioner not only to achieve a high level of physical energy but also to develop to a high level of the Chan (Zen) meditation system on the mental plane.

The only written material about the E-Mei Daoyin was in the form of ancient poetry, written in such complex and ancient language that very few people could grasp the meaning of the poems and thus clearly understand and express their ideas.However, in the 1950's, TCM Dr. Zhou Qianchuan published a book in which he clearly explained the elements of some of the poetry in relation to  the subject. He also taught the E-Mei system in Beijing and Shanghai. 

Shen Jin is a remarkable teacher and she takes great care to help the development of each student. Each weekend offers a complete E-Mei Daoyin exercise which can be practiced independently of the other E-Mei exercises, while each Daoyin develops different aspects of mind, body and spirit and can be studied in it's own right.
